Last weekend we finally were able to get a fresh coat of bottom paint on our sailboat. We chose Interlux VC17m, partially because it is easy to apply and works well for our location on Lake Pepin, which is fresh water. Also because that is the paint that has been used on her before. We are pretty happy with the results, as you can see in the video the bottom can certainly use some work, but for our first season with this boat, we are happy enough.

The sailboat we had last year had VC17m on it as well, and it kept the dreaded zebra mussels at bay, so we are confident that we will be happy with the results again on our Islander 28, Aurion.

Now we need some more good weather so we can put a fresh coat of Sikkens on the deck teak. So far this spring the weather has not been cooperating. The next big thing is to have Aurion moved to Lake Pepin from her winter home in Afton at Hooper’s Yachts, they will be handling the transportation for us as well. After that, a few more small projects and hopefully we will get her in the water in two to three weeks. This time spent waiting to get projects done is killing us. I seriously need to quit my job so I can spend more time doing more important things like lubing the head and checking engine zincs.

Happy Sailing
