We snapped this photo this past Labor Day weekend as we sailed around Spirit Island on Lake Mille Lacs in northern MN. It was a beautiful, sunny and warm day. The winds were very light so we got to spend the better part of an afternoon enjoying the sail. From where we were staying, it was about a three mile round trip. They day before we made the same trip in less than a third of the time, both were just as much fun. We had never seen cormorants this close before, they were making the most unusual sounds. We imagined we were going by the Galopogos Islands as we made the turns around the island. There is more information about the birds here if you are interested.
