Last Wednesday, December 16, Tillerman of Proper Course, announced the winner of his Love and Sailing writing project. I am happy to report that yours truly was named the lucky winner. There were many great submissions, 14 in all I believe. You can see the complete list with links to their stories here. Of the many fine stories, Danger Will Robinson!, It’s a Rock!, Sailing – The Best Thing That Ever Happened and Sailing Reminds Me Why it’s Good to Be an Old Married Couple received votes on Tillerman’s blog. All were great stories about why sailing is the greatest pastime to spend with loved ones, in good times and trying times alike. Tillerman’s Love and Sailing writing project gave us all the opportunity to reflect on the reasons that we love sailing.
The Proper Course blogster also put a lot of thought and clever writing into his commentary of Setting the Record Straight – Capt. Puffy Pants Eats Crow. He compares the story to the “postmodern” classic movie Pulp Fiction. He also goes on to suggest that in his estimation Boat De Jour is the first truly “postmodern” sailing blog. Further saying that “Boat De Jour is setting a totally new direction in sailing blogs.” Very high praise coming from, without doubt, the most popular sailing blog out there. Just Google “sailing blog” and see who comes up.
Proper Course has been and continues to be an inspiration for the rest of us. EVK4 SuperBlog says “Best sailing blog on the planet.” Of course, Tillerman also posts other quotes like the one from Adam Turinas from Messing About in Sailboats where he says “You are a total nutter.” Tillerman’s sense of humor is one for all of us to envy, one of my personal favorites is his History of Sailboat Race Start Procedures. Hilarious! And if you are looking for sore stomach muscles I highly recommend his Laser sailing seminar, Proper Course: The Laser Experience!
So it is with great humility that I thank Tillerman and all his readers for voting for my entry in his Love and Sailing writing project.
Thank you and safe harbors to all!
