So we enter a new chapter in our sailing life as we welcome a new member of the family to our home. Bella followed us home last week on Friday. We are very excited. Bella is a Precision 23 from Precision Boat Works. She adds 6 feet in length and 1.5 feet in width to the boat we had and the additional room is astonishing. She comes with a small galley which will be nice for morning coffee when I wake from my slumber on the hook. There is nothing better than morning coffee on a boat as the sun comes up and burns the morning fog away. There are berths for five somewhat friendly people and a head behind a curtain.
To us, she definitely has a much more of a “big boat” feel than our previous P-18. She also comes with a double reef in the main and a roller furling genoa which adds some nice sail options for us that we were missing in Var Skibet. We have been told that we are going to love this boat and can’t wait to get her on the water. She also comes equipped with a bulk head mounted compass on the starboard side and Raymarine Bidata sounder/knot meter on the port. Now I just need to figure out where to mount the GPS.
We have decided to fork out the money to rent a slip on Mille Lacs lake this year rather than trailer her as we initially planed. I think we will like that better. Should be easier on the boat, trailer, truck and blood pressure. We are looking forward to a more relaxed sailing experience this year. Public launches are always a hurry up and get the hell away type of ordeal and we will be glad to be done with that.
I shall regale my dear readers with the entire accounting of how this all came to be in a future post, it was fairly amazing, lets just say.
