Aurion breaths life anew into our lives, Aurion, by name, Aurion by gift. Our simple existence uplifted by a vessel of hope and aspirations. Aurion comes by way of chance and for eager and awaiting sailors, has brought forth a new chapter in their everyday lives. Aurion, the definition in it’s original Greek, meaning a fresh breeze, or a morning breeze and has also come to mean tomorrow. Tomorrow’s fresh morning breeze. Tomorrow’s fresh morning breeze is the breeze which will lift our day to new heights.

Tomorrow we sail destinations on the horizon we know not, tomorrow we sail to cleanse our soul and rejuvenate our lives. This is what Aurion means to me, to us. This is what sailing means to us. It is with these thoughts in my mind that I dream of sails yet unsailed., because, alas our new Aurion sits in her cradle on the hard with six long months of winter before her. This is the winter of our discontent.

My prose flows from my heart, not to impress, but simply to convey the truth that fills the hearts of all sailors. It is in the act of sailing that lifts us to new places unknown to our conscious selves. It is the sailing that teaches us what is important in life. We learn to respect, we learn to trust, we learn to love. Where else, except on a sailing vessel must you place such trust in your fellow crew, and in this trust , we develop respect. If your crew be your spouse, then so much the better, because with this trust and respect, the love that grows will grow beyond our wildest expectations.

It is with these ideas and fortitudes I am nursing this November day, to sustain my health and vigor as I dream of days and nights to come aboard Aurion. Of ports to come, of anchorages to set our life’s compass towards. Next spring, when the robin sings and the ice melts away from our Mississippi home, Aurion will sit upon her waters, proud in the knowledge of her capabilities and proud to carry new students to new lessons they can’t predict. She will be a steady steed, and patient teacher for her eager sailors. In their excitement they will make mistakes to be sure, but they will never forget why they sail. To live!
