Designed by Jim Taylor, the Precision 23 is easily trailer launched and retrieved, yet is big enough for short cruises with long berths and ample storage below in a very attractive setting. Taylor emphasizes sailing performance with all Precision models. Her tall mast has a fractional sail plan for easy headsail handling. The shrouds are located inboard for a tighter sheeting angle and for walking about the deck with ease. The keel has internal ballast within the fiberglass hull and there is a centerboard controlled by a simple rope to offer nice windward performance. This is a three-owner boat and it is in like new condition.

Bella has been an excellent sailboat, but we have decided to move to a larger sailboat. She is extremely responsive and other sailors tell us she is a fast boat. She is in fine condition and the next owner will be very happy with a terrific, Jim Taylor designed sailboat. More information can be found at Precision Boat Works about this great boat. Bella is located at Hooper’s Yachts in Afton, MN.
Here are some of my musings about Bella.
I am looking at Precision 23 sailboats for sale. It looks like your boat is already sold, but I’m wondering if you can tell me abit about how she sailed on Lake Pepin and any good, bad, etc. What do you think of the “no traveler” setup? I will probably keep my boat in the St. Croix River area with some trips down to Lake Pepin. If you would be open to sharing your final sales price, that would be appreciated. Thanks! Lori
Hi Lori, Thanks for reading my blog. We, my wife and I, really enjoyed the Precision 23. Lake Pepin’s winds seem to us to be either of two conditions, none or full blast. The 23 handles either quite well in our opinions. If you pay attention to crew placement in light airs you will be rewarded. In the heavy wind, we reefed at around 15 knots of wind, sometimes using the second reef if the wind was particularly fickle. With all the cliffs the wind can switch directions frequently, I’m guessing the St. Croix area is similar. We sailed almost every weekend last summer in winds up to 28 knots and felt like the limiting factor was us, not the sailboat. We didn’t miss having the traveler too much, but it would have been a nice addition for added sail control. We learned towards the end of the season to keep the main sheeted in more tightly in heavy wind which helped her stay on her feet better. Over all the Precision 23 is a very well built sailboat and we would heartily recommend one. Other sailors we had aboard over the summer had huge grins on their faces while at the helm. The 23 responds very quickly to driver input and accelerates quickly. If you look at the sail area to displacement ratios she is in the high-performance racer category with the 135% genoa, which ours had. We had a Yamaha 9.9 outboard, which was way more motor than required, we hardly ever had the motor at more than idle speed, maybe a little more, but not much. Ours ended up selling for $22,500. Our only complaints would be in the living arrangements. We stayed aboard every weekend, so the lack of head room was hard on my old back, and secondly, we slept in the v-berth so we had to move the porti-potty at night. If you plan to day sail mostly, these two concern won’t matter as much. There is plenty of sitting headroom and the space seems open and inviting. The companion way hatch is huge, so this allows for standing up in a large portion of the saloon. We think they are pretty boats as well. If you have any other questions I will be happy to answer as best I can. Happy sailing.
Lori,
I have a 2005 P23 that I am thinking about selling.
